Two main tests were conducted in identical fully-furnished lounge/office spaces in
two separate single-family flats in the 22 storey reinforced-concrete tower block,
together with smoke management tests in an emergency escape stairwell.
The experiments highlighted the
capabilities of early fire detection systems in providing both effective early-warning
of fire and continuous data flows for the monitoring and modeling of fire growth and
This will be achieved by combining improvements in the availability of high
performance computing, sensor networking and communications and our ability to
understand and predict the behaviour of fire in buildings.
